A large-scale 5720㎡ tension membrane parking canopy project has been successfully completed and officially accepted in Lhasa Economic Development Zone, Tibet. Constructed by Weifang Kaifort Membrane Structure Engineering Co., Ltd. (KaiFort), the project adopts a classic tie-rod arch membrane structure design, specially customized for high-altitude plateau extreme weather conditions. Despite the large construction area and tight schedule, the whole project was fully delivered within only 40 days, creating a high-standard and high-efficiency benchmark for large-scale membrane structure projects in plateau areas.

Lhasa features a typical high-altitude plateau climate with strong ultraviolet radiation, long sunshine duration, large temperature difference between day and night, and frequent strong winds. The harsh natural environment puts forward extremely strict requirements for outdoor building materials, structural wind resistance and overall durability. As an important economic and industrial carrier in Xizang, Lhasa Economic Development Zone gathers a large number of enterprises and institutional vehicles. Traditional open-air parking areas are severely affected by intense sunlight, wind and sand erosion, causing vehicle paint aging, interior fading and frequent dust accumulation, which greatly increases daily vehicle maintenance costs. To improve the park’s supporting facilities and optimize the business environment, the zone launched this large-scale parking canopy upgrading project.

This project faces two core construction difficulties: extremely tight construction period and continuous vehicle operation in the parking lot. The parking area serves as a key traffic passage in the economic zone with uninterrupted vehicle access every day. Full-site closed construction will seriously block traffic and affect daily office operation and enterprise transportation. In view of the special plateau construction environment and on-site operation demands, KaiFort adopted a scientific zoned construction and segmented installation solution. The whole 5720㎡ construction area was divided into multiple independent construction units, realizing staggered construction, phased completion and gradual opening, which effectively avoided construction interference and ensured the normal operation of the entire park.

In terms of structural design and material selection, all configurations are optimized for plateau extreme weather. The main frame adopts standard Q235 steel structure with professional anti-corrosion and wind-resistant reinforcement treatment, which maintains stable mechanical performance under strong wind, low temperature and dry plateau conditions. The canopy surface is made of high-strength PVDF1050 weather-resistant membrane material, featuring excellent UV resistance, anti-aging performance, self-cleaning property and temperature adaptability. It can effectively resist strong plateau solar radiation, wind sand and rain erosion, keeping the membrane surface clean for a long time and greatly reducing later maintenance work.

To shorten the high-altitude on-site construction cycle and reduce field operation risks, KaiFort adopted a mature factory prefabrication and modular hoisting process. All steel trusses, accessories and membrane panels are precisely processed, welded and hot-welded in the factory in advance. After transportation to the Lhasa construction site, the whole structure is assembled, tensioned and completed in sections. This highly efficient construction mode ensures construction accuracy, structural safety and rapid delivery, realizing the completion of the super-large 5720㎡ project within 40 days.

After completion, the arch tension membrane canopy presents neat lines, smooth and tight membrane surface and perfect drainage performance. The modern and elegant appearance perfectly matches the standardized and modern construction style of the economic development zone. The all-weather sunshade, rainproof, windproof and dustproof functions comprehensively protect various parked vehicles, effectively solve vehicle aging and dust accumulation problems caused by plateau extreme weather, and greatly improve the overall supporting grade and service capacity of the park.

The client highly recognized the project quality, construction efficiency and standardized construction management. The finished effect fully meets the design and operation expectations, and the whole construction process does not affect the normal traffic and operation order of the economic zone.
