Xilinhot No.6 Middle School Stadium Membrane Structure Shade Canopy Project Case

This project is a stadium shade canopy built for Xilinhot No.6 Middle School, a campus sports supporting facility located in Inner Mongolia, China. Covering an area of 400 square meters and completed within 20 days, the whole project including design, fabrication and on-site installation was delivered by Weifang Kaifort Membrane Structure Engineering Co., Ltd. (KaiFort).

Project Background

The school stadium serves as the core area for physical education, after-class activities and spectator events. The open viewing area had no shading or rainproof facilities, exposing teachers and students to strong sunlight in summer and rain in bad weather. To upgrade the campus sports facility, the school decided to add a comprehensive shade canopy over the spectator area. The key requirement was completing the construction without affecting daily court use and without damaging the ground.

Project Difficulties

Although the project is not large in scale, the construction conditions were strict:

  1. High ground protection requirement: The viewing area is close to the court. The whole construction process must not damage the lawn or plastic track surface. Lifting, transporting and scaffolding all require careful ground protection.
  2. No interruption to court use: With busy teaching schedules and sports events, the court must remain in normal use during construction. Work had to be organized in different time periods and zones to minimize disturbance to school activities.
  3. Tight schedule and compact process: The whole project had to be finished within 20 days, requiring well-organized steel fabrication, membrane production and on-site installation.
  4. Strong wind load in Inner Mongolia: Located in the grassland area with frequent windy weather, the canopy structure had to be designed according to local wind load standards to ensure long-term safety and stability.

Material and Construction Solution

To balance ground protection, construction efficiency and safety, KaiFort adopted the mature factory prefabrication plus on-site segmented assembly model:

  • Membrane material: PVDF1050 high-strength membrane with excellent sunshade, rainproof, UV resistance and self-cleaning performance, suitable for long-term campus outdoor use.
  • Main structure: Standard Q235 steel frame with professional anti-corrosion treatment, stable, wind-resistant and pressure-resistant, meeting local wind load design standards.
  • Construction method: All steel frames and membrane panels are prefabricated in the factory and then assembled and tensioned on site in sections. Flexible ground protection was applied throughout the process, without damaging the lawn or plastic track, and with minimal impact on normal court use.

Finished Result

The project was completed and put into use on schedule. The white tensile membrane canopy features a simple and elegant shape that naturally blends with the campus stadium environment. The spectator area now enjoys all-weather sun, rain and wind protection. The membrane surface is flat and tight, the structure is stable, and the overall facility upgrades the school sports image.

Client Feedback

The school highly recognized the project result. The sunshade and rainproof function fully meets the expected standards. The construction did not damage the stadium ground and basically did not affect normal court use. The project was delivered within the agreed period, making it a standardized and professional campus membrane structure cooperation.
